Benefits Practice

We work with jointly administered Taft-Hartley trust funds and their trustees on legal matters that arise in benefit claims and appeals, government audits, litigation, and daily office administration. Our trust fund clients include national and local trust funds including those affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry, International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, and International Longshoremen’s Association.

Our legal services include: 

  • Preparation and filing of plan documents and updates of summary plan descriptions
  • Representation at Board of Trustees’ meetings
  • Subrogation recoveries
  • Collection of delinquent contributions and withdrawal liability assessments, and the costs and fees associated with these actions
  • Representation in government audits and investigations
  • Compliance with health care and retirement plan law and regulations
  • Litigation in all areas of collection of delinquent contributions, withdrawal liability, fiduciary-based claims and benefit claims
