Ms. Liva represents union employee benefit funds in all matters relating to ERISA, PPACA, the Taft-Hartley Act, and the Internal Revenue Code, including benefit claims and appeals, actuarial assessments, QDROs and QMCSOs.
Ms. Liva graduated magna cum laude from Kent State University with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and a minor in computer science. She went on to obtain a master’s degree in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University, where she also attended law school after being awarded the University’s Law-Medicine Scholarship. She also successfully completed the Society of Actuaries P1 exam. Ms. Liva began her legal career in civil litigation representing physicians in medical malpractice cases before serving as in-house counsel for an emerging biotechnology company in Cleveland. Ms. Liva’s knowledge of the health care industry and financial mathematics provide her with a uniquely comprehensive understanding of the current issues facing employee benefit funds.
